COMFORTING  A FUSSY BABY

All babies CRY!!!  Infants cry approximately 60-90 minutes a day during the first 3 weeks of life.  Attempt to eliminate the reason for crying and try comfort measures as follows:

  • Feed /Burp
  • Change diaper
  • Check clothing for warmth and comfort
  • Swaddle or wrap securely in soft blankets
  • Hold or rock
  • Decrease environmental stimulation, turn down lights, decrease noise etc
  • Offer a pacifier if nursing is well established
  • Place in baby swing
  • Bathe the baby
  • Sing or play soothing music
  • Infant massage
  • Take for a stroller or car ride
  • Place in soft front carrier or sling
